Finding a club or raceHow-to
How to find a running club near you (and pick the right one)
The short answer
Ask livedot in ChatGPT or Claude for a running club near you, or ask runners you know, then open the club's page: it shows the weekly runs, start times and weather at the club's pace. Pick on pace, times and how beginners are welcomed, and go twice before deciding.
A running club gives you what's hard to find alone: a time to turn up, people at your pace, and a reason to go out when it's dark or cold. The hard part is finding the right one. This guide covers how to find running clubs near you, in the chat and on foot, and how to pick one that suits you. It's part of livedot's guides to finding a club or race.
Where can I find running clubs near me?
Ask, in the chat or in person, then look the club up.
- Ask livedot in ChatGPT or Claude. "Best running club to join in Fourways" or "beginner running club near Brooklyn" gets the clubs near that place, nearest first (more below). Setup is at livedot.me/mcp.
- Ask around. Colleagues, friends, the local running shop or a gym's notice board.
- Look it up by name on livedot.me. The search looks through both apps at once: people first, then organisers, clubs and live events.
- Search Clubs on RunFast. Sign in at runfast.tech/app, open Clubs and search under Find your club, or use the Clubs tab in the app.

Searching by name works on livedot.me and RunFast; searching by place works in the chat.
How do I find a club, step by step?
Ask for clubs near you
With livedot in ChatGPT or Claude, ask "best running club to join in [your suburb]" or "beginner running club near [your town]". You get the clubs near there, nearest first, with their weekly runs and a Join button.
Ask runners you know
Colleagues, friends and the local running shop know which clubs run where and when, and which ones welcome new runners.
Look the club up
Search for it by name on livedot.me, or in Clubs on RunFast, on the web at runfast.tech/app or in the app. Its page shows the weekly runs, start times and meeting points.
Check the runs that suit you
Read each run's distance, pace and description, and its weather at the club's pace from 10 days out.
Join, and say I'm in
On the club's page, choose Join the club or Ask to join, then tap I'm in on a run. It goes on your Runs list.
Go twice before you decide
The first run is nerves. The second tells you whether the pace, the people and the time suit you.
How do I pick the right running club?
Match the club to the runner you are now, not the one you plan to be. These are the questions that decide it.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Pace | A group at or below your easy pace, such as 7:00 per km (11:16 per mile) |
| Distance | A run you can finish comfortably, such as 5 km (3.1 mi) |
| Day and time | One you can make every week, not just once |
| The back of the group | Someone who waits, or a "regroup" at turns |
| Where it starts | Somewhere safe to park or reach, with light if it's early or late |
| What happens after | Coffee, a chat, a club race to train for |
Most clubs say it in the run's description on their page. If it doesn't, ask. A good club is happy to tell you before you come.
What should I expect at my first run?
A few minutes of standing around, then a run that's easier than you feared. Most clubs gather 10 to 15 minutes before the start, say who's new, and split into groups by pace.
- Arrive early and tell someone it's your first time. Ask which group to join.
- Start in a slower group than you think you need. Moving up next week is easy; hanging on at the back isn't fun.
- Bring what the weather needs. The run's forecast is on the club's page: water and a cap in the heat, a light and a bright top in the dark.
- Know the way back. Ask for the route, or open it on the club's page, in case you turn early.
Nobody expects you to be fast, or to know the route. They do expect you to come back. If the first club isn't right, try another one the next week: each club's page shows its runs, so you can see which day and pace fit before you go.
What does a club's page show?
What you need to turn up. On RunFast, a club's page shows Next up, Every week and Coming up: every club run and race with its route, start time and the weather at the club's pace from 10 days out. The same club has its page at livedot.me/its-name, with what's live, what's next and what's been.
Members tap I'm in on a run, and its forecast comes by email at 18:00 the evening before. Anyone else who opens the page sees how many are coming, never who. RunFast's help explains joining a club and saying I'm in.
What does livedot show when I ask by place?
Ask livedot in ChatGPT or Claude "best running club to join in Fourways" or "beginner running club near Brooklyn", and you get a list of clubs near that place, nearest first. Each shows:
- how far away it is, and its weekly runs, such as "Tue & Thu 17:30 · Sat 06:00";
- Beginners welcome and pace groups, where the club says;
- its next run, with the forecast;
- a Join button to the club's page, with a free account in the same step.
Only clubs that added their area are listed, and only clubs and their public runs, never people. Say "for beginners" and it lists only the clubs that say Beginners welcome.
What if my area has no club on RunFast?
Clubs join RunFast one at a time, so yours may not be there yet. Ask the club you've found to put its runs on a free page: a club manager can add it at runfast.tech/app/#/clubs/add. Point them to how to get your running club found in ChatGPT.

Is it free?
RunFast and livedot are free for runners and clubs, thanks to ProLend. Some clubs charge a membership fee for their own costs, which is between you and the club. Make a free account at runfast.tech to join a club and say I'm in.
Questions
How do I find a running club near me?
Ask livedot in ChatGPT or Claude, such as "running club near Fourways": it lists clubs near that place, nearest first, from their own pages. Ask runners you know too, and look a club up by name on livedot.me or in Clubs on RunFast.
Do I need to be fast to join a running club?
No. Many clubs have several pace groups, and some run a beginner group with walk breaks. Read the run's description for its pace, or ask the club before you go.
What should I ask a running club before I go?
The pace and distance of the run you'd join, whether anyone waits at the back, where to meet and park, and whether there's a fee to become a member.
Can ChatGPT find a running club for me?
Yes, with livedot added. Ask for a running club near a place, and it lists the clubs near it, nearest first, with their weekly runs, Beginners welcome, pace groups, the next run's weather and a Join button. It lists only clubs that added their area, never people.
Is RunFast free?
Yes. RunFast, its club pages and livedot are free for runners and clubs. A club may have its own membership fee; that's the club's, not RunFast's.
