About the race
The Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich is the annual marathon of Valencia, held in early December. World Athletics rates it a Platinum Label road race, and it is organised by the local club SD Correcaminos, which also runs the city's half marathon.
History
The first edition was held in 1981 as a popular race called the Marató Popular de València. Over the years it has carried different sponsor names, among them the Divina Pastora Valencia Marathon from 2011 to 2014 and the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Marathon from 2015. In 2020 the mass race was cancelled because of the pandemic and replaced by an elite-only edition, run as two laps of a course close to the half marathon route. The race has since become known for very quick times, with the men's course record standing at 2:01:48, set in 2023.
The course
The marathon is a roughly looped route. It starts around the Pont de Montolivet and finishes next to the Museu de les Ciències Príncipe Felipe, part of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias complex. The organiser's promotional material shows runners crossing the line at this modern landmark.
Distances
The main event is the 42.195 km marathon, and Wikipedia lists a 10K run alongside it. The organiser's site keeps half marathon (21K) and marathon registration on separate pages.
The next edition
The organiser's page shows the 2026 marathon on 6 December 2026. Check the organiser for the date of the following edition.
Entry basics
Registration runs online through the organiser. Its menus list general registration, registration with a code, a waiting list, official tour operators and a race guide, so runners should read the regulations and FAQ for current windows, limits and time requirements.
Where to watch
The finish area at the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is the most visible gathering point. The organiser also publishes a runner area with a course page, so spectators can plan other viewing spots along the loop from there.
Weather
Early December is cool in Valencia. Mornings are fresh, and daytime is usually mild, although the season can bring rain or cloud, so spectators should dress for a cool, changeable day.
